Burmese Gold Ring with Red Garnet

POSSIBLY BURMA (MYANMAR) OR NORTHERN THAILAND, 14TH-15TH CENTURY A.D.

7/8 in. (4.98 grams, 22.58 mm overall, 16.39 mm internal diameter (approximate size British J 1/2, USA 5, Europe 9.32, Japan 9)).

Comprising a D-section shank with graduated bulbs to the shoulders, disc bezel with claw setting for an irregular polished garnet.

Acquired in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
Private collection, London.

    In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
