Received by gift from Professor Alan Thompson. Wicklow, Ireland, sold at auction between 1935-1939. From the collection of the late Dr JDH Widdness, Dublin, Ireland. Accompanied by a handwritten slip with notes on the coin and a card with initialled provenance. -
Ancient Greek Coins - Attica - Athens - Owl AR Tetradrachm After 449 B.C.

Obv: helmeted head of Athena right, full eye, wearing earring, necklace, and crested Attic helmet ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll. Rev: AQE to right of owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig with two leaves and one berry, and crescent moon behind, all within incuse square. 17.21 grams, 24 mm.
Extremely fine.
