Ancient Greek Coins - Macedonia - Alexander III (the Great) - Countermarked AR Tetradrachm 190-189 B.C.
Posthumous issue, Aspendos, Pamphylia mint, dated year 23. Obv: head of Herakles right, wearing lionskin headdress. Rev: ALEXANDROY legend with Zeus seated left, right leg drawn back, holding eagle and sceptre; AS over K Γ in left field; Seleukid anchor countermark to obverse. Very fine.(16.12 grams.).
