Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Zangids of Sinjar, Qutb al-Din Muhammad AE Dirham. AH 594-616 (AD 1197-1219).

Dated AH 600-602 (AD 1203/4-1205/6). Draped female bust facing, head to right, wearing crested Greek-style helmet; name and title of Qutb al-Din Muhammad around / Name and titles of Abbasid Caliph al-Nasir and Ayyubid overlord Abu Bakr in five lines. Album 1880.3; Whelan Type III; S&S Type 82.1. Near Very Fine.(14.55gr, 30mm, 6h.).

    Time of the Rashidun ΑΕ Fals. Circa AH 37-55 (AD 658-675).

    Pseudo-Byzantine type. Type E. Struck circa AD 658-664. Imperial Byzantine figure (Constans II) standing facing, holding cross-tipped staff and globus cruciger; Ο above globus / Large m; cross above with curved ornaments flanking; [A] N [...] to left, n Є O to right; illegible inscription in exergue; c/ms: bld ('bi-ludd') within incuse circle. For coin: cf. SICA 1, 518 (for type); for c/m: SICA 1, p. 90. 3.77gr, 24mm, 8h.

    Fine. Rare.

    From the collection of a gentleman, acquired on the London art market in the 1990s.

    It is very possible that these coins, which bear the 'bld' countermark, were issued in the city of Diospolis (ΔΙΟΣΠΟΛΙΣ, Ludd) and superseded the earlier types of the same city.

    Marw mint. Dated AH 90 (AD 709/710). Kalima in three lines; in the margin, mint and date / Legend in Arabic in four lines (Qurʾān 112: 1-4); in the margin, 'Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions, even though the unbelievers may dislike it' in Arabic. Walker 490; Album 128; Klat 587b. 2.97gr, 27mm, 5h.
