Achaemenid Silver Animal-Headed Handle
5TH-4TH CENTURY B.C.
3 1/2 in. (56.5 grams, 90 mm).
With round-section shank slightly bowed at the middle, at each end a horse-head finial with low-relief detailing, pricked ears, integral attachment plate.

Such a figurine might have been worn as part of a necklace or bracelet for decorative purposes, Due to the tribal and sometimes nomadic nature of many of these populations, many Luristan bronzes were not of great size. Statuettes of local fauna have been largely recovered from North-Western Persian burials. -

Specialised collection of cuneiform texts, the property of a London gentleman and housed in London before 1992. Thence by descent to family members. Examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This small collection is exceptional for the variety of types, including some very rare and well preserved examples.
