EGYPTIAN WOODEN SARCOPHAGUS MASK
LATE PERIOD, 664-332 BC
21 1/2" (9.2 kg, 54 cm including case).

A sarcophagus mask of a man, with polychrome painted decoration; to the chin, a black false beard; wearing a striped yellow and blue tripartite wig with black decoration at the ends, a large black scarab on the top of the head, with a striped yellow, crimson, and blue broad collar; the details of the eyes, cosmetic lines, brows and ears added in black.

PROVENANCE:
Ex Bonhams sale 16853, lot 263; property of a private American collector; acquired in New York City in 1976 from Samuel Haddad; this lot is accompanied by a copy of a certificate of authenticity.
