English Milled Coins - William III - 1698 - Second Laureate Bust Gold Guinea Dated 1698 A.D.
Obv: profile bust with GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA legend. Rev: cruciform arms and sceptres with MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX legend and date. Good very fine; small mark to edge at 12 o'clock, possibly where loop once removed.(8.29 grams.).

Found with a metal detector, Essex.

Robert Cooper Ready (1811-1901) was hired by the British Museum in 1859 to make exact electrotype copies of coins, medals and seals for study and display purposes and some of these were gifted or sold to museums and collectors around the world; this practice was continued into the 20th century by his sons Charles and August until 1931; most are marked to the edge.
