Western Asiatic Painted Ceramic Zoomorphic Jug
CIRCA 9TH-12TH CENTURY A.D.
5 1/2 in. (321 grams, 14 cm high).
Formed as a stylised animal with stocky body, stub tail, thick neck developing to a pinched spout, loop handle to the shoulder; painted with bands of geometric designs, reserved rosettes, pointillé bands, etc.

Examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The collection is exceptional for the variety of types, including some very rare and well preserved examples. -
