Western Asiatic Painted Ceramic Zoomorphic Jug

CIRCA 9TH-12TH CENTURY A.D.

5 1/2 in. (321 grams, 14 cm high).

Formed as a stylised animal with stocky body, stub tail, thick neck developing to a pinched spout, loop handle to the shoulder; painted with bands of geometric designs, reserved rosettes, pointillé bands, etc.

From the Steel family collection, 1950s-late 1990s.
