Group of four carved stone animals comprising: two limestone reclining lions; a green glass lion with head turned, loop to the reverse, socket for attachment of a separate face panel; boar crouching with legs folded beneath the body.

The handle fragment from a Tufnell type 484 jar, bearing a stamp to the upper handle with a schematic winged solar disc with lines delineating the upper rays of the sun, inscribed 'Ḥbr[n] / Hebron'. 50 grams, 70 mm

Accompanied by a copy of a description from Peter Gert Van der Veen, senior lecturer of Levantine Archaeology Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Acquired in a Dorset/Somerset saleroom in the late 1950s. From the private collection of Colonel E.J. Martin (1911-1981) Indian Army and Artillery Regiment; collected since before 1954, and still with its original box with old information label. Identified by Colonel Martin's friend, the 'Keeper of Antiquities' at the British Museum.
