VIKING BRONZE HORSE HEAD STAFF FINIAL
11TH-12TH CENTURY AD
2" (54 grams, 50 mm).

A cast bronze finial in the form of a horse's head with hatched mane, small elliptical ears, ring-and-dot eyes and clubbed muzzle; the socket elliptical in plan with a large attachment hole to one side.

PROVENANCE:
Private collection, Nottinghamshire, UK; acquired late 1980s-early 1990s; found near York, UK.
