Viking Age Bronze Artefact Collection
6TH-11TH CENTURY A.D.
1 - 1 3/4 in. (42.6 grams, 25-44 mm).
Comprising: a domed mount with a pounced fantastical sea creature in low relief, the head modelled in raised relief; equal-arm brooch with central flower head flanked by scrolled crosses, vertical ribs between, remains of pin lug and catchplate to reverse; mount with trefoil finial and possible zoomorphic scheme. This bridle junction is decorated in the Anglo-Scandinavian Ringerike style. On each side of the central hole is an outward facing animal, their beaked heads positioned on the outer edges. The details on the face are carried out in moulded relief as well as engraving. -
