Tudor 'Thames' Pewter Knopped Spoon with Maker's Marks
CIRCA 16TH CENTURY A.D.
6 7/8 in. (64 grams total, 17.5 cm).
The shallow ovoid bowl stamped to the upper face with the letters W W M and a swan over 'NB' within a roundel, collared finial with apex knop. [No Reserve]

A small reliquary pendant, possibly containing the remains of cloth or bone of a saint. The relics had to be kept in containers that expressed the dignity of their contents: chests, cases and, of course, reliquaries. This also applied to personal relics, often in the form of pendants, which were sometimes made in gold and silver. -
