Thrace, Mesambria AR Tetradrachm. Circa 150-125 BC. In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon.

Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied beneath chin / ΒΑΣIΛΕΩΣ [ΑΛ]ΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated to left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, holding long sceptre in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing to right with closed wings; in inner left field, helmet above ΔA; ΠPO monogram beneath throne. Price 1062; Topalov, Messambria 18; HGC 3, 1568. Near Extremely Fine. Toned. Obverse slightly double struck.(16.86gr, 30mm, 11h.).

    Good Very Fine. Pleasant cabinet tone. Flan crack at 5h. Apparently the only example with this monogram variety.
