Legionary issue for the 5th Legion. ANT AVG [III VI]R•R•P•C, praetorian galley to right / Aquila between two signa; LEG V across fields. Crawford 544/18; CRI 354; BMCRR East 196; RSC 32. Near Very Fine. Toned. Bankers' marks on obverse.(3.40gr, 17mm, 6h.).

    The small P on the obverse of this coin represents the only example of an artist engraving his initials on a Roman Republican coin. This fact went unnoticed for centuries, until it was first pointed out in a Santamaria sales catalogue in 1920.
