Stuart Period 'Thames' Pewter Decorated Whistle
17TH CENTURY A.D.
1 1/2 in. (7.64 grams, 37 mm).
Comprising a waisted and perforated pipe connected to a squat, spherical sound box with circular sound hole, integral suspension loop to the end; decorated with a stylised floral design consisting of lines and pellets. [No Reserve]

This item would have been fastened to the hem of a long skirt and linked to the waist; the wearer would use it to discreetly hold her dress hem clear of the ground to keep her dress clean, especially when climbing stairs or entering/leaving a carriage. -
