Group comprising: hand-carved stone zoomorphic oil lamp in the form of an animal (possibly a bear); a stone oil lamp decorated with flowers. [2, No Reserve]
ProvenanceFrom an old Tonbridge private ethnographical collection.
From the collection of a Lincolnshire, UK, gentleman.
The vessels are hollowed out allowing it to serve as both fill hole and wick and the body is decorated with dot and circle and stylised plant incisions.

'The Darley with Menwith' Gold 'Keepe Faith Till Death' Posy Ring

Substantial gold hoop with lightly incised inscription to the inner face in an italic hand: 'Keepe faith till death'. 4.42 grams, 19.65 mm overall, 16.49 mm internal diameter (approximate size British L, USA 5 3/4, Europe 11.24, Japan 10)
Found whilst searching with a metal detector near Darley with Menwith, North Yorkshire, UK, on Monday 7th March 2022 by Wesley Biddles. Accompanied by a copy of the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) report no.YORYM-BC1E78. Accompanied by a copy of the report for H M Coroner on a find of potential treasure with Treasure reference no.d2022 T419. Accompanied by a copy of a letter from the British Museum on behalf of the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, informing that the Crown's interest in this find has been disclaimed. -
Greek Style Silver Bowl Group

Group of two silver 'Phiale Mesomphalos' bowls comprising: squat-bodied with short neck and everted rim, repoussé rosette fluting to the base and lower body, central gilt mesomphalos surrounded by punched triangles; similar with repoussé palmettes to the sidewall, mesomphalos surrounded by a braided wreath. 249 grams total, 11.2 - 12.2 cm

Byzantine Style Bronze Reliquary Cross Pendant

Hinged suspension loop, two recessed halves hollow to the reverse, low-relief figure in orans pose to the obverse, geometric ornament to the reverse. 126 grams, 10.5 cm
Acquired 1980-1990s. From the private collection of H.N., Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire, UK.
Usually the reliquary crosses or enkolpia, were composed of two separate halves, inside of which a relic of a saint was contained; this could have been a piece of cloth or a bone. The practice, in the Orthodox Church, is still in place today, sometimes by using reproductions of ancient styles, like our specimen, probably realised at the beginning of the last century.
