LOWER PALAEOLITHIC PERIOD, 450,000-280,000 B.P.
6 in. (593 grams, 15.3 cm).
Large rough water-worn handaxe showing some advanced features: a cambered edge; cortex removed to accommodate fingers; part of butt removed to fit the base of the thumb; designed for right-handed use; with inked legend 'Westcott / Bucks / Introduced', 'P1'. [No Reserve]
