LOWER PALAEOLITHIC PERIOD, CIRCA 700,000-300,000 B.P.
3 3/8 in. (124 grams, 87 mm).
Ovate in plan with a rounded blade, inked collection notes '3999/1/28' '1827. SNC 3.84 WGS', and a pencilled note '1237' on the other side. [No Reserve]
Provenance
Previously in several old Stone Age tool collections, having been annotated with three different accession numbers.
Acquired from an Oxfordshire, UK, auction house.

Comprising mostly bifacial and uniface leaf-shaped and piriform flint and chert arrowheads; probably from the Sahara region of North Africa. 105 grams total, 22-44 mm

Similar specimens of arrowheads have been found in the Eastern Sahara Region of Abu Tartur Plateau. Most of the arrowheads came from the El Jarar Neolithic, c. 7700-7300 B.P. (c.6500-6100 B.C.). Other parallels occur in the region of Kharga Oasis. -

The weapon (or tool) belongs to the typology with rounded butt and convex sides. It is very common in the Neolithic Period of the British Isles. -
