ROMAN STATUETTE OF THE GODDESS VENUS
2ND-3RD CENTURY AD
11 3/4" (875 grams, 27 cm).

The goddess of love depicted with youthful idealising features on a slender neck, hair dressed in a chignon to the rear, two tresses pulled up over the crown of her head and fastened in a top-knot, with two tresses falling past her shoulders; her oval face with almond-shaped eyes beneath gently-arching brows, slightly-parted lips, and a rounded chin; standing on a columnar base, the goddess depicted nude, with a slender physique, standing with her weight on her left leg, similar to that of the Capitoline Venus; holding and looking into a circular mirror held in her right hand and a pomegranate in her left, both professionally re-attached.
