MEDIEVAL STAINED GLASS PANEL WITH A GITTERN-PLAYING ANGEL
EARLY 14TH CENTURY A.D.
7 1/2 in. (452 grams, 19 cm).

Roundel with painted image of a winged and nimbate angel playing a gittern; left hand supporting the neck of the instrument and right hand manipulating a pointed plectrum; pegbox carved with a beast's head finial; silvered and deep red panels to complete the circular shape. [No Reserve]

PROVENANCE:
French private collection.
Private collection, Suffolk.

PUBLISHED:
Exhibited at Harwich Museum, Harwich, Essex, UK, 3rd February-9th March 2024; accompanied by a copy of a photograph of the artefact on display.
