Southern Asian Bronze Mythical Beast Door Handle
19TH-20TH CENTURY AD
12 1/4 in. (820 grams, 31 cm).
Wearing a headdress, forepaws held in front of the face with claws ready to attack, a prominent phallus, a small creature astride the beast's paws, detailing across the body and head; a plaque at the feet and to the shoulders with foliate motifs in relief and holes for attachment. [No Reserve]

In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
