South East Asian Votive Terracotta Head Group
CIRCA 12TH-14TH CENTURY A.D.
1 3/8 - 2 5/8 in. (192 grams total, 36-67 mm).
Comprising three heads modelled in the round; the largest with pronounced facial detailing, wearing a cap; one with chubby facial detailing, possibly depicting a young child; the smallest with naturalistic facial detailing and wearing applied discoid earrings; possibly Javan. [3, No Reserve]

The Cau Mau shipwreck refers to a cargo of Chinese porcelain sunk between 1723 and 1735 off the coast of Vietnam. The wreck was discovered by Vietnamese fishermen in 1998. It is believed the wreck was a merchant’s junk on its way from Canton (Guangzhou) to Batavia when it caught fire and sank. The ship was carrying goods destined for Dutch traders who had limited access to China and its ports. -
