South East Asian Terracotta Lidded Vessel

19TH CENTURY A.D. OR EARLIER

3 5/8 in. (85 grams, 91 mm).

Formed as a human bust and torso, the body lozengiform in plan with low-relief bent arms to the obverse, hatched saltire to the reverse, applied sheet-gold detailing to the chest and shoulders; the knop-handled stopper forming the head with sheet-gold diadem and earrings, ushnisha top-knot, brows, and facial features.
