KHMER, 9TH-10TH CENTURY A.D.
20 1/4 in. (20.9 kg total, 51.5 cm including stand).
As Mahishasuramardini, 'slayer of the buffalo demon', standing wearing a conical crown, four arms and naked to the upper torso, close fitting dress; mounted on a custom-made display stand. [No Reserve]

In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -
