South East Asian Peranakan Silver 'Pending' Belt Buckle Plate
EARLY 20TH CENTURY A.D.
6 1/4 in. (6 3/4 in.) (88 grams, 16 cm wide (173 grams total, 17 cm high including stand)).
Of slightly curved profile with mounting bracket to the reverse, pelletted border and field of dense floral and foliage ornament; accompanied by a custom-made display stand. [No Reserve]

Acquired on the Singapore art market in 2002.

On an integral rectangular base; with naturalistic execution, head facing downwards and slightly to the animal's left, the expressive eyes and mouth held open exposing two rows of teeth; ornately caparisoned, with saddle and saddle cloth displaying a delicate foliate motif; remains of polychrome pigmentation. 13.2 kg, 58 cm wide
