South East Asian Bronze Buddha Head Collection
16TH-17TH CENTURY A.D.
2 1/4 - 4 3/8 in. (804 grams total, 5.6-11.1 cm).
Comprising of heads with lentoid half-lidded eyes, wide nose, full curved lips and elongated earlobes; three with rich headdresses and one with pelletted hair and pointed crown. [4, No Reserve]
Provenance
From the private family collection of Ersula Barter-Hemmerich, the longest serving member of staff working at the United Nations, her private collection formed in the 1950s and 1960s; thence by descent to her grandson.

In the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the 'Dragon’s Embrace.' This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. -
