28 1/4" (45 kg, 72cm including stand).
A carved stone statue of a Bodhisattva Maitreya, depicted wearing the sanghati with one hand raised in benediction, wearing a flowing robe typical of the Ghandaran style of the period; his hair arranged in a large ushnisha symbolising wisdom with flowing locks to the back; his closed eyes denoting serenity and contemplation and he is adorned with beads and necklaces to the neck, an armlet, two detailed bracelets and large studded earrings; he holds an amulet in his left hand.

Property of a North London collector; acquired from Spink, 7 July 1993.
