Scandinavian Viking Massive Danish Broad Axehead

9TH-11TH CENTURY AD

8 1/4" (1.65 kg total, 20.8cm).

A hand-forged iron broad axehead of symmetrical profile with reinforced curved cutting edge, triangular-section socket with flanking spurs to upper and lower edges; mounted on a custom-made stand.

Provenance

From the family collection of a London gentleman; formed in the late 1940s-1950s; thence by descent.
