Saxon Silvered Bridle Fitting

LATER 6TH CENTURY A.D.

3 1/4 in. (69 grams, 84 mm).

A silvered bronze strap distributor from a bridle comprising a cheek-piece ring and three sliding attachments to secure harness straps; each attachment formed as an elongated triangular plate with ring at the broad end and lobes to accept attachment rivets (some still in situ).

Acquired since 2000.
Property of an Essex, UK, gentleman.
