Saxon Archbishop Aethelheard with Coenwulf - Group III Penny

798-805 AD. Fifth Issue. Obv: AR (abbreviation for Archiepiscopi) at centre with +AEDELHEAR:D legend with last D retrograde. Rev: M at centre with +COE.NVLFR.EX legend with the V and X surrounded by pellets. Silver, 0.97 grams.

Small chip and flan crack, otherwise near very fine. Extremely rare, with only one other example having AR at centre recorded (same dies, Vatican Library collection).

Found Cambridgeshire, 2010.

S. 886A; N. 234; Recorded EMC 2010.0309 (this coin). With extract from EMC entry and print of an email from Fitzwilliam Museum confirming the die duplicate.
