Romano-Celtic Bronze Statuette of God Sucellos
2ND-4TH CENTURY A.D.
2 3/4 in. (36.7 grams, 69 mm).
Modelled in the round with luxuriant hair and beard, bare-chested with a short kilt and belt; left arm extended straight and right arm bent upwards. [No Reserve]
ProvenanceFrom the private collection of a European gentleman (1942-2024), formed since the 1970s.

Acquired from Shirley Warren Antique Glass, Surrey, UK, in 1993 with reference no.4155/4083. From the collection of a Bedfordshire, UK, lady. Accompanied by an original Shirley Warren invoice no.2388 dated 18 September 1993.
This is a common form of jar with trailed ornaments, and numerous examples have been found in the Syro-Palestinian Region (Beit Fajjar, Jerusalem, Grave A at Ain Nabrud, etc). -

Roman Fresco Wall Plaster Collection

Fragments of wall plaster with rendered surface painted with mainly Pompeii red, pale blue, brown and white detailing; some with an impression of timber laths to the reverse. 1.46 kg total, 7.9-16 cm
Acquired in the 19th century. Ex Jeger collection, Switzerland. UK gallery, early 2000s.
These small fragments, for analogies with the fragments of Pompeii, seem to belong to the second style of Roman painting, red panels representing highlight and shadow, decorated with vegetal interlaces. A red grenade fillet probably framed some panels. A fragment shows alternate blue and red colours over a cream background, maybe pertinent to a socle.
