Roman Vase Gemstone in Gold Ring
2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
7/8 in. (8.48 grams, 22.56 mm overall, 19.58 mm internal diameter (approximate size British Q, USA 8, Europe 17.49, Japan 16)).
A cloison garnet intaglio with vase, flowers and seeds; set into a later gold finger ring comprising a broad hoop with beaded wire rims, scrolled shoulders with granule detailing, discoid bezel; set into a later gold ring; supplied with a museum-quality impression.

Roman Bronze Three-Dimensional Vessel Mount

Comprising a plaque of three conjoined lobes with segmented border; at the top, a loop with segmented rim; vignette with a nude male with shoulder-length hair embracing a taller bearded figure with kilt and mantle to left shoulder (Hercules?); below, a satyr with horns and goat's legs beset by hunting dogs. 286 grams, 13.8 cm

Vessel mounts of this form are not a commonly recovered artefact type and the presence of two figures instead one is a very singular feature. We can suppose that the mount was attached to a vessel of large dimensions and of a certain importance.
