Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp with Rampant Stag
2ND CENTURY A.D.
4 in. (81 grams, 10.3 cm).
Discoid in plan with stub heart-shaped nozzle, loop handle with ribbing to outer face, shoulder with low-relief wreath detailing, discus with stag running right; ropework bands to underside of nozzle, base marked off with two circular grooves, impressed 'C' to centre.

The ring belongs to the category where the bezel and the ring’s platform merge together, forming a round plate. The round bezel is often decorated with an animal figure, but in this specimen, it is ornamented with the Celtic pattern of the Tree of Life. -
