Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp Collection
1ST CENTURY B.C.-6TH CENTURY A.D.
2 1/8 - 5 3/4 in. (743 grams total, 5.5-14.8 cm).
Mixed group of eight oil lamps, including one with a triple nozzle and dogs chasing hares on the shoulder, a double-spouted oil lamp with Abundantia holding a cornucopia, one with a bird in profile holding a branch in its beak, and others. [8]

Comprising a slender D-section hoop and a large oval bezel with laurel wreath and inscription 'VICTOR'. 4.29 grams, 20.63 mm overall, 16.44 mm internal diameter (approximate size British L 1/2, USA 6, Europe 11.87, Japan 11)

Roman Fresco Wall Plaster Collection

Fragments of wall plaster with rendered surface painted with mainly Pompeii red, pale blue and white detailing; some with impression of timber laths to the reverse. 499 grams total, 69-85 mm
Acquired in the 19th century. Ex Jeger collection, Switzerland. UK gallery, early 2000s.
These small fragments, for analogies with the fragments of Pompeii, seem to belong to the second style of Roman painting, red panels representing highlight and shadow, decorated with vegetal interlaces. Some panels were probably framed by a red grenade fillet. A fragment shows alternate blue and red colour over a cream background, maybe pertinent to a socle. -
