ROMAN REDWARE OIL LAMP
CIRCA 4TH-5TH CENTURY A.D.
5 1/2 in. (168 grams, 14 cm).

Squat lamp with broad body, shallow discus with raised ribbing, stub nozzle, flange handle to rear with piercing; part of sidewall absent. [No Reserve]

PROVENANCE:
From a collection acquired on the UK art market from various auction houses and collections mostly before 2000.
From an important Cambridgeshire estate; thence by descent.

LITERATURE:
Cf. similar item in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, under accession no.27.94.15.
