Roman Red Jasper Gemstone with Hunter and Dog
2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
5/8 in. (0.71 grams, 15 mm).
Oval in shape, engraved with an advancing male figure holding a long curved staff on his shoulder, a water skin hanging from the rear end and a low dish from the other, a leaping hound at his feet.

Roman Gold Ring with Banded Glass

Hollow-formed with ellipsoid bezel, inset panel of banded iridescent glass bearing an image of a nude Greek hero with long hair, the head turned back, carrying branches, an amphora or jug at his feet. 1.18 grams, 18.29 mm overall, 15.66 mm internal diameter (approximate size British G, USA 3 1/4, Europe 4.92, Japan 4)
Acquired early 1990s. Ex private American collection; thence by descent. Private Swiss collection since 1998.
The inset glass bezel is probably archaic Greek or Etruscan and reused in Roman times. The traits of the man point to Archaic Hellenic features, especially the oval eyes and the long hair, and the pointed beard reminiscence of the Achaean heroes. -

The head of the brooch with rectangular wings with concave reverse housing the spring, a separate hinged pin fitted around the axis bar, an integral rectangular bow with a circular aperture at the apex and a central column of rectangular green/blue and red enamel cells. 33.39 grams, 60 mm
Found whilst searching with a metal detector near Conistone with Kilnsey, North Yorkshire, UK, circa 2018. Accompanied by a copy of the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) report no.YORYM-366098. -
