ROMAN HEAD OF GAIUS OR LUCIUS CAESAR
EARLY 1ST CENTURY AD
11 3/4" (14.1 kg, 30cm including stand).

An early Imperial marble bust of a youthful male, stern expression, slender face with short hair combed forward; probably Gaius Caesar or Lucius Caesar, grandsons of Augustus and his designated heirs, who died in 2 and 4 AD respectfully in suspicious circumstances; mounted on a custom-made stand.

From the private collection of A L, acquired London 1996.
