1 in. (8.40 grams, 23.52 mm overall, 18.89 x 17.87 mm internal diameter (approximate size British Q, USA 8, Europe 17.49, Japan 16)).
Featuring an expanding hoop with openwork volute scroll shoulders, set with a nicolo intaglio showing an opposing man and a woman holding hands, the woman holding an ear of wheat, the male figure resting upon a shield, signifying his military status.

Acquired on the European art market.

Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden was known for photographic images of Italian youths posed as classical figures, often nude in a classical landscape or setting. At the outbreak of World War I he left Italy; Mussolini's fascists destroyed many of his images and glass negatives as obscene.
