ROMAN GOLD 'CONSTANTINO FIDEM' INSCRIBED MILITARY RING
306-337 AD
1" (11 grams, 26mm overall, 22.65mm internal diameter (approximate size British Z+1 1/2, USA 13 1/4, Europe 31.19, Japan 30)).

A substantial flat-section hoop with rectangular plaque, inscribed to the outer face in capitals 'CONSTANTINO' and to the plaque 'FIDEM' (loyalty to Constantine).

PROVENANCE:
From an important London collection, acquired in the 1970s.

LITERATURE:
Cf. Spier, J. Treasures of the Ferrell Collection, Wiesbaden, 2010, p.8 and similar example found at Amiens, France, and acquired by the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; acquisition no. GR.1.1975, and another acquired by the British Museum under reference 1917,0501.649.
