Roman Ceramic Campana Relief

MID-1ST CENTURY BC-EARLY 2ND CENTURY AD

14 1/2 x 13" (7.3 kg, 37 x 33 cm).

A Campana relief sculpture of Victory sacrificing a bull, kneeling with her knee between that animal's shoulders, a knife in her right hand poised vertically above the bull's head, left hand extended to grip the bull's jaws; traces of red colour in the hair; mounted on a red plaster board.

Provenance

Ex Levett Collection, Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins, France; ex Dr. Fritz Reinert Collection, Wien (1912-1996), compiled in the 1930s.
