Swept in profile comprising a horizontal crescentic panel to attach to the rim, with inlaid silver detailing, recurved cobra-shaped thumb pad, raised serpent to the outer face of the tapering handle, finial a mask of Bacchus or Pan, facing with volute scrolls to the brow and thick splayed beard; silver diadem and eyes. 110 grams, 14.2 cm

Roman Silver Razor Handle

Handle from a twin-bladed triangular razor, in the form of the head and neck of a panther, the head turned backwards, the panther having backwards-pointing ears, the eyes of the animal depicted by a horizontal engraved line within an elongated leaf-shaped moulding, the nose curving downwards and its tip tapering to a rounded end, smooth neck. 5.6 grams, 27 mm

The body of this type of vessel is formed from two heads joined together at the back. The faces have protruding chins, full cheeks and turned-up noses. The hair, filling the space between the faces, is arranged into spherical curls. This kind of products were often realised in Syrian workshops and widespread across the empire. They are usually dated to the 3rd century A.D.
