Roman Carnelian Gemstone with Cupid and Rooster
2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
1/2 in. (0.68 grams, 13 mm).
Translucent with gently sloping walls, intaglio image of a rooster facing a seated Cupid, his upper body turned away from the rooster and holding an arrow in his raised hands.
Provenance
Ex Swiss collection formed in the 1980s onwards.
