Roman Bronze Ring with Armed Warrior

4TH-5TH CENTURY A.D.

7/8 in. (2.25 grams, 22.55 mm overall, 19.38 mm internal diameter (approximate size British P, USA 7 1/2, Europe 16/23, Japan 15)).

The hoop expanded slightly at the shoulders, circular bezel engraved with what is possibly a stylised warrior figure wielding a spear. [No Reserve]

The cornucopia symbolises the abundance of good luck that people hoped for in worshipping her and the rudder symbolises her steering the destiny of people. In the city of Rome, she had a temple in the Forum Boarium. The goddess had many aspects such as Fortuna Augusta, the luck of the emperor and the Imperial family, Fortuna Publica, the luck of the people, and Fortuna Obsequens, indulgent fortune, amongst many others.
