ROMAN BRONZE FIGURE OF MERCURY
1ST-2ND CENTURY AD
4" (334 grams, 10 cm).

A finely cast figure of the god Mercury in seated pose, nude but for a petasos hat, the right leg raised and bent, the right hand drilled to accept an attachment, possibly a money pouch; the facial features naturalistically cast, with short, curling hair; mounted on custom-made stand.

PROVENANCE:
From the collection of a Swiss banker living in London, formed 1970-1980.
