Roman Bronze Figure of a Pygmy
2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
4 in. (227 grams total, 10 cm high including stand).
Modelled in the round figure of a pygmy with later pelta shield and Corinthian helmet; the figure modelled nude with exaggerated muscles and genitals; mounted on a custom-made stand.

The Wirral brooch is thought to have been derived from the trumpet brooch, and is called such as the earliest discovery of this type was from the Wirral. It is now thought that the main, and possibly only, production site was based in Wirral. -
