Ellipsoid inlay with incuse profile bust of an elderly man with thinning curly hair, wrinkled brow and hollow cheeks; supplied with a museum-quality impression.

The piece has been restored after having been split into two parts, retaining a chip on the edge.

Roman Bronze Serrated Medical Forceps

With long rectangular-section arms serrated at the end, finial formed as a disc with scroll decoration; accompanied by a slip reading 'Roman, Decorated Bronze Forceps, C. 1st-2nd century AD. Large, finely decorated pair of bronze forceps, with long, slightly expanding arms & serrated grips, indicating it may have been used as a medical instrument. Provenance: O'Bee Collection, acquired in the 1980's & believed to have been found in East Anglia. Published in Bennets R-22-0106, pg 232. ref. Gold Ring with Elliptical Garnet

Comprising a substantial keeled hoop and raised bezel set with a garnet, the garnet with a central lozenge flanked by two transverse lines, the ring shape is characteristic of Augustan rings. 8.36 grams, 25.87 mm overall, 19.48 mm internal diameter (approximate size British P 1/2, USA 7 3/4, Europe 16.86, Japan 16)

The ring type is characteristic of the Augustan Period, and two further examples are documented by the Romisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum in Mainz.
