Comprising mainly lentoid and plano-convex seals in carnelian, amethyst, and other materials with engraved intaglios including a stag, two human figures, huntsman with deer and other topics; each supplied with a museum-quality impression. [6, No Reserve]

Roman Fresco Wall Plaster Collection

Fragments of wall plaster with rendered surface painted with mainly red and brown detailing; some with impression of timber laths to the reverse. 1.73 kg total, 4.5-17 cm
Acquired in the 19th century. Ex Jeger collection, Switzerland. UK gallery, early 2000s. This lot is accompanied by an illustrated lot declaration signed by the Head of the Antiquities Department, Dr Raffaele D’Amato.
These small fragments, for analogies with the fragments of Pompeii, seems to belong to the second style of Roman painting, red panels representing highlight and shadow, decorated with vegetal interlaces. Some panels were probably framed by a red grenade fillet. A fragment shows alternate blue and red colour over a cream background, maybe pertinent to a socle. -

Globular jars such as this one have been found in many later 1st-early 2nd century contexts in Britain, central and Northern France, and the Netherlands. Louis-Gabriel Bellon was a prominent French collector of antiquities in the 19th century, renowned for his discerning taste and extensive knowledge of ancient art. His collection, which included Greek, Roman, and Egyptian artifacts, was widely regarded as one of the most significant of its time. Bellon's dedication to the study and preservation of antiquities contributed to the broader understanding of ancient cultures during his era. Pieces from his collection remain highly sought after, reflecting his exceptional eye for quality and historical significance. -
