Renaissance Sardonyx Cameo of a Young Woman

1 1/8 in. (9.59 grams, 30 mm).
High-relief bust of a young lady facing right, her curly hair neatly pulled back to a chignon at the nape of her neck, jewelled diadem resting on top of the head; mounted in an unmarked high-carat gold brooch setting dating to the 19th century.

Maria Theresa Walburga Amalia Christina (c.1717-80) was ruler of the Habsburg dominions from 1740 until she died in 1780, and the only woman to hold the position suo jure. She was the sovereign of Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Bohemia, Transylvania, Mantua, Milan, Lodomeria and Galicia, the Austrian Netherlands, and Parma. -
