Rome mint. Struck AD 270. 10th officina. [IMP C] M AVR CL QVINTILLVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust to right, seen from rear / MAR-TI PACIF, Mars walking to left, holding olive branch with right hand, spear and shield with left; X in left field. RIC V.1 24 var. (not cuirassed); MER-RIC 1187 (temporary). Good Very Fine. Some silvering remaining. Flan crack at 2h.(2.60gr, 20mm, 12h.).

Uncertain mint. Incuse of reverse / SPES PVBLICA, Spes walking to left, holding flower with right hand and raising hem of skirt with left. For reverse type cf. RIC V.1 135 (Tetricus I, Treveri); cf. RIC V.2 272 (Tetricus II, Treveri). 2.07gr, 20mm.

Brockage errors are caused when an already minted coin sticks to the coin die and impresses onto another blank that hasn't been struck yet, pressing a mirror image of the other coin into the blank. Until the late 3rd century AD brockages showing the reverse are much less common since mint workers would be more likely to see the stuck coin in the anvil die. -
