Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. Ptolemy I Soter, as satrap, AR Tetradrachm. 323-305 BC.

Memphis or Alexandreia mint. Struck circa 323/2-317/1 BC. In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied beneath chin / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated to left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, his feet resting on a low foot rest, holding long sceptre in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing to right with closed wings; rose in left field, ΔIO (moneyer's signature) beneath throne.     C. Julius Eurykles led Spartan ships to join Octavian at the battle of Actium and was later awarded Roman citizenship and the title of 'hegemon' of the Spartans following the victory. His distinction by the emperor Augustus was not the only benefit from his involvement in the battle. In defeating Antony, Eurykles avenged his father, Lachares, whom Antony had executed.
